Northwest golfers 10th at Free State Invitational

The Shawnee Mission Northwest girls golf team had a tough day Monday at the Free State Invitational.

High scores were the norm for numerous teams, and SMNW was no exception. The Cougars placed 10th out of 14 teams with a score of 423. St. Thomas Aquinas won the team title with 328, Blue Valley West was second at 332 and Shawnee Mission East was third with 333. Fourth-place Olathe East and Washburn Rural finished 14 strokes behind the Lancers.

Aquinas' Gianna Misenhelter was the tournament champion with a score of 71.

Cassie Perkins led SMNW with a 97, Whitney McMillon had a 100, Nicole Karley shot a 109, Erica Waltman had a 117, Ali Alonzo shot a 118 and Caela McMillon had a 130.
