Person of interest’ located in homicide investigation

April 14, 2010

Shawnee Police say they have located a person of interest they were seeking in a homicide investigation.

Police reported Tuesday that Kansas City, Kan., resident Michael Lewis, 22, was found in Long Beach, Calif.

Police had asked the public for help in finding Lewis to question him relating to the slaying of Curley Tyler, 43, who was discovered dead April 4 in his SUV at his Shawnee apartment complex. Lewis was arrested Monday night in Long Beach on unrelated charges and is being held there.

Police said they would travel to Long Beach to question Lewis.

The Shawnee Police Department announced Monday that its Major Case Squad had taken over the homicide investigation from the Metro Squad, which ended its investigation Friday, April 9.

The Metro Squad last week searched a Kansas City, Kan., house in connection to the investigation, questioning three residents of the home and searching a vehicle parked at there. No arrests were made in that search.

Anyone with information about the slaying is asked to contact the Shawnee Police Major Case Squad at 742-6690 or 631-2150.
