Run for Mercy
Sherri Privitera, race director for this year’s Run for Mercy, discusses the event.
Q. When is this year’s Run for Mercy?
A. The seventh annual Run For Mercy 5K/10K begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at Monticello Trails Middle School, 6100 Monticello Road. Run packets and late registration will be available from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Chris Cakes will begin serving at 8 a.m. and there will be a Kids Fun Run at 9:15 a.m., a silent auction, and a post-run festival.
Q. How will the run work around the construction at Mill Valley High School and on K-7?
A. All of the activities including the start/finish line will be at Monticello Trails Middle School next door. Parking will still be available on site at the high school. Due to the construction on K-7 and more importantly the detours, the 10K route has changed from last year to stay on the South side of Johnson Drive on both the west and east sides of Monticello. The 5K race stays the same as last year.
Q. Will there be anything else different this year?
A. As usual, it will be a USATF-sanctioned route. This year we’ll introduce the D-Tag for timed runners, so there will be no chip and no chip return fees. Just peel the tag from your bib, place it under your shoelaces, put adhesive ends together and you are ready. Additionally, we will have on-site broadcasting from 95.7 The Vibe and even better post race food.
Q. How can participants register and get their information prior to the day of the event?
A. Participants can register online at active.com until midnight Wednesday, April 14. There’s a direct link to the registration page at oceansofmercy.com, or registration forms can be downloaded from there and dropped off at the Country Club Cafe, 66th Street and Monticello, through end of business April 14. Registration is also available Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Westside Family Church at 83rd Street and K-7.
Q. How much does it cost to enter?
A. It’s $22 for the 5K and $32 for the 10K now through April 16. The day of the event, it is $25 for the 5K and $35 for the 10K. T-shirts will only be available for the first 1,200 participants, so pre-registration is encouraged!
