SMNW golfers win home tournament

David Catt fired a 70 and tied for second individually while leading the Shawnee Mission Northwest boys golf team to a first-place finish out of 22 teams Monday at the SMNW Invitational at Lake Quivira Country Club.

Northwest fired a 291 — the second-lowest score in school history — and edged runner-up Blue Valley North by three strokes. North’s Harry Higgs was the tournament champion with a 69.

Northwest’s Brett Dowell scored a 73 and placed fifth. In addition, Jackson Foth (74) and Tanner Jarman (74) both placed in the top 10 out of 110 players.

Logan Coffman shot a 76 to round out the Cougar squad.

Northwest next competes at 3 p.m. Monday, April 19, at Falcon Ridge Golf Course. After that, the Cougars play Thursday, April 22, at the Washburn Rural Invitational at Shawnee Country Club in Topeka.
