Jobe, Jaguars pound Turner, close in on KVL championship
Just how dominant was Jillian Jobe during the Mill Valley softball team’s 15-3 mauling of Turner on Monday at the 3&2 District Complex?
The Jaguars’ pitcher and three-hole hitter not only tossed a five-hitter with two earned runs allowed. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and three runs batted in.
Her dominance on the mound and at the plate helped the Jaguars remain undefeated in the Kaw Valley League standings with three games to go.
Turner took advantage of a first-inning error to scratch across a run, but Mill Valley quickly erased the deficit with three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning.
Jobe and Taylor Brunson hit back-to-back singles that sparked a two-out rally. Ariel Mull brought both of them home with a double, and she scored on a two-bagger by Katie Yoder.
Turner pulled within 3-2 in the third inning, but Mill Valley seized full control of the game in the bottom of the inning as it scored eight runs on six hits. Jobe had two hits in the inning, including a three-run triple. Yoder had a three-run double and Brunson plated two more runs with a double as MVHS jumped on top, 11-2.
Turner scored once more in the sixth before MVHS tacked on four more runs and secured the mercy-rule victory.
Brunson, Mull, Yoder, Taszia Roseberry and Annie Deaver all had two hits in the victory.
Results of game two of the doubleheader were unavailable at press time.
Mill Valley (9-2) next plays at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Bonner Springs. The Jaguars then play May 4 at Santa Fe Trail before closing out KVL play May 6 at the 3&2 District Complex against Perry-Lecompton.
The Jaguars have one non-league series remaining. Their April 22 doubleheader against Spring Hill that was rained out has been rescheduled for May 10 at the 3&2 District Complex.
