Cougars cruise past Vikings
February 7, 2010
Just four days earlier, Shawnee Mission Northwest's boys basketball team suffered a disappointing 41-37 loss to Shawnee Mission West.
The Cougars made certain during Satuday's rematch that everybody knew the loss was a fluke.
The Cougars crushed the Vikings, 60-34, in a game where Northwest flat-out dominated.
SMNW outscored West in every quarter, but it was a 17-6 run in the second quarter that served as the knockout punch. West had hung around during the first quarter and trailed just 12-8 entering the second.
SMNW led 29-14 at halftime and continued to pull away throughout the second half.
Steve Carver scored a game-high 19 points for Northwest, Trey Fruehling had 16 and A.J. Spencer added 14 in the victory.
Northwest snapped a three-game losing skid and improved to 9-5 overall this season.
The Cougars next play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at home against Olathe North.

Point of View
Do you think it is important for Shawnee to be bicycle-friendly?
I think it’s important. I do love and use the paths, but it would be nice to have lanes so we could use bikes to run errands - saving gas!
