Two men injured in separate rollover crashes on I-435

February 8, 2010

Two men were injured in rollover crashes recently on Interstate 435 in Shawnee.

A Gardner man was injured Monday on southbound I-435 just north of Shawnee Mission Parkway, and a Kansas City, Mo., man was injured Sunday on northbound I-435 just north of 79th Street, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Ronnie G. Henry, 41, lost control of his SUV about 6 a.m. Monday and slid across all lanes of traffic into a ditch on the west side of the highway, striking a sign. Henry’s vehicle then overturned once before coming to rest on its wheels facing north.

Henry was transported to Overland Park Regional hospital. He was wearing his seat belt.

On Sunday, Jeffrey Morgan Cook, 25, lost control of his Honda Civic about 3:45 p.m. as he attempted to pass another vehicle in the northbound lanes. His car rolled over and struck a sign post, and Cook was ejected from the vehicle. Cook was transported to Overland Park Regional hospital. He was not wearing his seat belt.

Point of View

Do you think it is important for Shawnee to be bicycle-friendly?

I think it’s important. I do love and use the paths, but it would be nice to have lanes so we could use bikes to run errands - saving gas!
