Maranatha teacher tops in Christian schools

February 19, 2010

The Kansas Association of Religious and Independent Schools recently named a Maranatha Academy teacher the 2010 Distinguished Teacher for the Christian Schools in Kansas.

Beth Smith, a high school history teacher, received the recognition for her outstanding professionalism, work ethic and creativity.

Maranatha secondary principal Boyd Beck cited Smith's ability to provide different approaches to a concept so that all students can grasp an idea as one of her strengths.

KAIRS presents distinguished teacher awards for up to six teachers from across Kansas each year. Recipients are nominated by administrators, peers and students' families. KAIRS is the state's largest organization of non-public schools, representing 140 Christian, Catholic, Independent, Lutheran and Seventh-day Adventist schools.

Smith will be recognized at the KAIRS annual meeting April 11 in Topeka.
