Vandals cause damage at schools
March 9, 2010
De Soto USD 232 is asking for the community’s help in finding vandals that have cause up to $1,000 in damage at Prairie Ridge Elementary School and Mill Valley High School.
On the weekend of Feb. 12-15, someone broke a card reader used by teachers and staff to enter Prairie Ridge, said Alvie Cater, director of community relations.
The following weekend of Feb. 19-20, vandals struck again, cutting 31 window screens along the same building.
Finally on Feb. 28, a Deffenbaugh recycling bin at the school was set on fire.
This week, school officials sent home notes to parents asking for help in identifying those responsible for the crimes.
About five weeks ago, someone drove a vehicle on the Mill Valley High School soccer fields, and then the Monticello Trails Middle School practice fields, Cater said.
The ground on the fields was wet, causing considerable damage.
The district is asking anyone that witnessed suspicious behavior to contact the Shawnee Police Department at (913) 631-2155.
