SMSD high schools put in work at FIRST Robotics Competition

March 11, 2010

Robots and soccer were the backbone of all five Shawnee Mission High Schools last week during the Greater Kansas City FIRST Robotics Competition.

Shawnee Mission Northwest finished in 17th place, Shawnee Mission East finished in 22nd place and Shawnee Mission North finished in 24th place.

This year's competition asked teams to build a robot to kick or push soccer balls across a playing field into the opposing teams goal.

Teams earned points if their robot could hang in midair from a pole in center field.

Teams had six weeks to design, build and program their robots from identical kits of parts.
