SMNW soccer falls to BVW in state quarterfinals

November 3, 2010

Shawnee Mission Northwest’s quest for another berth in the Class 6A boys soccer Final Four came to an end Tuesday with a 4-1 loss at No. 1-ranked Blue Valley West in the state quarterfinals.

The Jaguars received a pair of goals from Garrett Pulliam in the first half, and the Cougars never fully recovered.

Later, Nick Besler scored on a penalty kick that stretched the lead to 3-0. Seo Hyun Kim tacked on West’s fourth goal of the first half and the Jaguars were in full control.

Northwest’s David Fancher scored in the second half to help the Cougars avoid the shutout, but they were unable to close the gap enough to make things interesting.

West (18-1-0) advances to play in the state semifinals on Friday. SMNW ended its season with a 10-7-2 record.
