Shawnee construction firm honored for work on historic building

A Shawnee construction firm won a national honor for its work on a historic building, the Associated Builders and Contractors announced this week.
Straub Construction Company Inc.’s work on the Entertainment Properties Trust project, 909 Walnut St. in Kansas City, Mo., earned the company an Eagle Award in the Historical Restoration-$2-$10 million category of the Associated Builders Excellence in Construction Awards.
Despite several client-initiated changes, Straub completed this $2.5 million design-build historical office restoration within a tight workspace and ahead of its aggressive 11-week time frame, according to a news release from Associated Builders.
Representatives from Straub received the award during an awards celebration at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Orlando, Fla.
"This project is an outstanding example of the innovation and commitment to superior craftsmanship that embody merit shop construction," Michael D. Bellaman, Associated Builders president and CEO, said in the news release.
The awards program honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. A panel of industry experts judged projects on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.
In February, the chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors named Straub its 2010 General Contractor of the Year.
