Kaitlyn Jackman, soon to be a freshman at Mill Valley High School, started her summer by winning a national arts award.

When the National PTA announced its 2011 Reflections Outstanding Interpretation Award winners in May, Kaitlyn’s photograph of Monticello Trail Middle School’s eighth grade girls basketball team earned the photography category’s top spot.

Behind the theme of “Together we can...,” submissions poured in from across the country for the 41st year of the contest. Six arts categories named winners, from dance choreography to musical composition, film production, photography, literature and visual arts.

Kaitlyn received a certificate, medallion and $800 and was recognized during a June ceremony at the National PTA’s annual convention in Orlando, Fla.
