August 24, 2011
Both the Shawnee Mission and De Soto school districts revealed 2011 Advanced Composite Test (ACT) scores on Aug. 16, each posting composites above state and national composite scores.
De Soto’s district composite score, 23.0, was a 0.7 point improvement from 2010’s score. Mill Valley High School improved from 22.4 in 2010 to 23.5 in 2011, while De Soto High School remained steady at 22.1.
More Mill Valley students are taking the exam as an additional 18 percent of students completed the ACT last year.
In a press release, Mill Valley Principal Tobie Waldeck said the school was pleased with the results and the fact that it raised its composite score with more students taking the exam. Mill Valley’s score represents a four-year high.
Shawnee Mission students earned a 23.9 composite score in 2011 while Shawnee Mission North High School students earned a 23.0 composite score and Shawnee Mission Northwest High School students earned a 24.1.
