Countertop business moves into new digs
January 19, 2011
There’s a lot of activity going on — and, for now, a good bit of dust swirling — at Surface Center Interiors.
SCI, formed last year by the blending of Ameristone LLC and Cutting Edge Granite and Tile, has moved into its new, high-visibility home at 12800 Shawnee Mission Parkway.
On the outside, workers are putting finishing touches on renovations to the building, which formerly housed the Fuhr’s Interiors furniture store. Inside, they’re busy setting up SCI’s 6,000-square-foot showroom of kitchen and bath displays.
The business moved in late December, and its new showroom is open for customers, although with limited access.
SCI hopes to have its showroom fully functional by mid-year, according to an announcement from the company.
SCI imports and creates natural stone, engineered stone and solid surfaces for the home, including countertops, fireplace surroundings, shower stalls and other kitchen and bath areas.
The company said in its announcement that it aims to cater to “sophisticated consumers, designers, developers and builders.”
Bob Wagner, president of Ameristone, and Craig Owsley, president of Cutting Edge, created SCI effective Jan. 1, 2010.
Ameristone had been in business since 1990, Cutting Edge since 2005.
The newly formed SCI operated out of Ameristone’s old location on Martindale Road before moving to Shawnee Mission Parkway.
Wagner said SCI plans to schedule a grand opening celebration later this year, after the showroom is complete.
