Free concerts coming to city parks

Project Chameleon, a regional rock cover band catering to diverse audiences, will perform at 7 p.m. Friday for the Shawnee Summer Concert Series. The free concert takes place at Swarner Park, 63rd Street and Lackman Road.

Attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets. Coolers and alcoholic beverages are not allowed.

Moe’s Southwest Grill will be cooking on site and offering food and cold beverages for purchase. The event runs until 9:30 p.m.

Two other concerts are planned.

Four Fried Chickens and a Coke will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m. July 22 at Stump Park, 47th Street and Woodland. Fireworks are planned after the concert. The band plays cuts from the Blues Brothers and the Commitments soundtracks, plus James Brown, Otis Redding, Ike and Tina Turner, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Stevie Wonder and more.

Groove Pilots will play from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at West Flanders Park, 55th Street and Nieman Road. The band is known for rock, funk and blues cover songs. The August concert celebrates the revitalization of downtown Shawnee.
