MVHS places 6 on All-KVL softball squad
June 21, 2011
In one of the most competitive Kaw Valley League softball seasons in recent memory, competition for All-KVL roster spots was equally fierce.
Mill Valley, Tonganoxie, Piper and league champion Basehor-Linwood led the way with six honorees apiece, and Bonner Springs and Lansing had five apiece.
Mill Valley proved its worth as one of the league’s strongest teams when it shrugged off a 1-4 start to the season and finished with a 16-6 record.
Although the Jaguars didn’t win the league championship, they had the most first-team All-KVL honorees. Junior pitcher Jillian Jobe, senior outfielder Katie Yoder and senior catcher Anastaszia Roseberry all were selected to the first team.
In addition, a trio of underclassmen infielders were recognized. Sophomore shortstop Kelli Spring was a second-team honoree, and sophomore third baseman Taylor Brunson and freshman second baseman Abby Ford were named as honorable mention selections.
In addition to the league honors, two Jaguars received Class 5A state honors. Jobe was named as a second-team All-State pitcher and Roseberry was a second-team All-State selection at catcher.
