Shawnee Mission school board candidates Joan Leavens, Bart Altenbernd and John W. St. Clair, Jr. will advance to the April 5 general election.
The three were the candidates to receive the most votes in Tuesday's primary for the at large Position 7 seat. Mark Anderson, the fourth candidate, will not advance to the general election.
With all precincts reporting a total of 8,430 votes, the primary results are as follows:
Joan Leavens, Overland Park: 2,955 votes (35.05 percent)
Bart Altenbernd, Prairie Village: 2,373 votes (28.15 percent)
John W. St. Clair, Jr., Fairway: 2,055 votes (24.38 percent)
Mark Anderson, Mission Hills: 1,047 votes (12.42 percent)
Leavens is an integration and outreach leader for One Health Kansas at Kansas State University, a group that promotes animal, human and environmental awareness. She also serves on the Kansas City Kansas Chamber of Commerce Bioscience Committee and the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Environment Committee.
Altenbernd is currently a paraprofessional at Nieman Elementary. Previously, he was associated principal at Westridge Middle School from 1998 to 2008 and was principal at Uniontown High School, Pleasant Ridge High School and Lansing Middle School.
St. Clair is a business consultant at Jefferson Wells International. St. Clair was the mayor of Fairway from 2003 to 2009 and was a Fairway city councilman from 1999 to 2003. He also has been a business consultant for Deloitte & Touche, American Century Investments and RSM McGladrey.
Anderson is a consultant at Principal WinningOutlook Associates, a firm specializing in contact centers. Previously, he worked at MCI/Verizon Wireless for 25 years, most recently as vice president of sales.
