Historical society plans breakfast, speakers in park

The Monticello Community Historical Society will play host to a Trails ‘N’ Tales Campfire Breakfast on Saturday, May 21.
The event is set for 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Garrett Park, 47th and Anderson streets.
Biscuits and gravy will be served from 8-10 a.m. for $5 for adults or $2 for children under 10. Speakers from 9:30-11 a.m. will talk about area pioneer trails, ferries and trading posts on the Kaw, the Garrett stone house in the park and “Wild Bill” Hickok, who was a Monticello Township constable before he became and an early sheriff. Exhibits on some of the same topics will be available throughout the morning.
In case of inclement weather the event will take place at the Monticello Community Historical Museum, 23860 W. 83rd St., Lenexa. Call (913) 667-3706 for more information.
The event is co-sponsored by the Shawnee Parks and Recreation Department and Hermes Nursery.
