An auto parts manufacturing company that announced in May it would open a plant in Shawnee — creating an initial 75 jobs in the city — has begun hiring.

Van-Rob, opening at 10601 W. 79th St., is seeking employees including maintenance and assembly technicians, material handlers and forklift operators with three years experience in a manufacturing environment.

A career fair is planned from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Holiday Inn, 8787 Reeder Road, Overland Park. Applicants should bring resumes and current certifications.

Citing Shawnee’s proximity to automotive plants in Kansas City, Kan., city economic development leaders said auto parts manufacturing, such as Van-Rob, was a potential target industry for business recruitment.
