K-7 Liquors enjoying newfound space after expansion

October 12, 2011

K-7 Liquors is now operating with a lot more elbowroom — and a party shop — after a major expansion earlier this year.

Managing partner and Shawnee resident James Butler opened the store, 22088 W. 66th St., eight years ago and previously did business in about 4,000 square feet.

The expanded store now covers about 10,000 square feet including the party shop, which opened in July, he said. The expansion also allowed for new amenities such as a public restroom, an employee break room, new offices and more storage.

“We’re actually one of the top-ten stores in Johnson County in terms of sales volume but were a fraction of the size of the other stores,” Butler said. “We absolutely needed the space to handle our current sales volume and to accommodate our growth.”

Even being located near Kansas Highway 7, Butler said the majority of his customers come from within a 5-mile radius.

In addition to mixers, cigarettes and other party supplies, customers can purchase cigars in the party shop — a product Butler said was going over even better than expected.

“We had no idea there was such a demand for cigars,” he said.
