Pumpkin derby, canine costume contest are Saturday at park
Two family-friendly fall events are coming Saturday to the Shawnee Mission Park Marina parking lot.
The Big Bad Pumpkin Derby begins at 10 a.m., and the Big Bad Canine’s Costume Contest and Parade begins at 11 a.m.
Both are free to spectators but have fees for participation. To register, search for the key words “fall fun” in the Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s online activities calendar at jcprd.com or call (913) 831-3359.
Pumpkin Derby participants build their own pumpkin racecars to compete in a double-elimination derby. Registration is $25, and complete contest rules are posted on the Park and Recreation District’s website. The Costume Contest costs $5 per entry and features prizes for winners of various categories, which also can be found online.
Shawnee Mission Park is located at 7900 Renner Road.
