Mill Valley boys, girls cross-country sweeps SM South quad
The Mill Valley boys and girls cross-country teams swept the Shawnee Mission South quad at Shawnee Mission Park on Thursday.
The boys placed first with 32 points, ahead of Olathe South (51), SM South (61) and Olathe Northwest (86). The girls placed first with 42 points, ahead of Olathe Northwest (50), Olathe South (55) and SM South (63).
The boys ended SM South’s string of three straight years of perfect scores and defeated the defending 6A state champion Raiders for the first time in Mill Valley history.
The girls quad victory was the team’s first quad title. Twelve Jaguars medaled in the event, led by Elle Wilson, who won the girls race with a 12:40 first-place finish among 63 runners.
Amber Akin (fourth, 12:53), Bailey Parke (eighth, 13:46) and Kennedy Hoffman (12th, 14:16) also medaled for the girls. In the boys race, Chris Gillespie led the Jaguars with a fifth-place 11:26 finish, followed closely by Andrew Eigsti (sixth, 11:27) and Derek Meeks (seventh, 11:28).
Other medal-winners included Graham Wilson (ninth, 11:30), Stephen McEnery (10th, 11:30.5), Bobby Hellon (11th, 11:31), C.J. Meeks (12th, 11:32) and Callahan Eckhardt (13th, 11:34). Mill Valley returns to competition at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Paola.
