Five Shawnee wrestlers help St. James place fifth in Gardner
Five Shawnee wrestlers were part of a St. James Academy team that placed fifth at the season-opening Gardner Blazer Invitational.
In a field of teams that also included Missouri, Oklahoma and Iowa, the Thunder’s fifth-place finish led all Kansas schools — this despite only filling 11 of the 14 possible weight classes.
Stephen Tujague placed third after going 4-1, and Andrew Tujague placed fourth at 138 pounds to lead St. James' Shawnee grapplers.
Junior Ben VanLerberg also went 4-1, competing at 145 pounds and freshman Tyler Hensley went 3-2 at 113 pounds. Freshman Tanner Schmidt went 1-4 at 132 pounds in his varsity debut.
The Thunder will travel to Tulsa for the Tulsa Union Mid America Nationals, the results of which will be updated at unionwrestling.com.

You forgot Andy Muehlberger, senior, who helped his team place in this tournament by placing 2nd.
