February 3, 2012

LANSING—A week after its dominant performance at the El Dorado Tournament, the Mill Valley girls basketball team had to grind out a 37-26 win against Lansing on Friday in order to extend its 11-game winning streak.

Through the first quarter, the Jaguars (11-3) looked to be in complete control against the Lions jumping out to a 14-2 advantage.

Mill Valley was able to keep Lansing at arm's length in the second quarter and held on to a 21-6 lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Lions came back with a little run of their own, including a 13-2 run to open the quarter. Lansing was within eight points going into the fourth period.

Although Lansing stuck within striking distance throughout the fourth quarter, but the Jaguars junior guard Tanner Tripp knocked down four crucial free throws to put the game out of reach.

Tripp was the only Mill Valley player in double figures with 15 points on the night. Her fellow junior Stephanie Lichtenauer finished the game with nine points.
