Thinking Bigger Business Media named two Shawnee businesses in its “25 Under 25” award winners for 2012.

Mill Creek Animal Hospital, owned by Martin Gilmore, and Blue Skyz Enterprises, owned by Douglas Hawkins, will be recognized during a banquet in March. The annual awards honor 25 Kansas City area companies that have fewer than 25 employees.

Mill Creek Animal Hospital, 13428 W. 62nd Terrace, employs 13. It was one of the first vet hospitals to establish a dominant online presence, including an online pharmacy and using email and social media to build relationships with clients, according to the write-up in Thinking Bigger Business magazine. Mill Creek Animal Hospital’s website is millcreekah.com.

Hawkins owns three line haul businesses under the Blue Skyz operation contracted to FedEx Ground Exclusive, according to Thinking Bigger, and Hawkins was named a FedEx Ground Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011. Blue Skyz, with 20 employees, has a robust safety training program, and is taking a number of measures to create a “greener” truck fleet. Find contact information at blueskyzsafety.com.
