St. James boys nab elusive first victory
After a December filled with frustration and five straight losses, the St. James Academy boys basketball team opened 2012 on a brighter note with a 53-36 victory against Olpe Friday night at home.
The Thunder seized control early and the victory never was in doubt.
St. James burst to an 18-10 lead after one quarter, and the lead quickly reached double digits during the second quarter.
St. James led 33-18 at halftime and then hit Olpe with a 10-2 run in the third quarter to put the lead well out of reach.
Clint McCullough scored a game-high 20 points for St. James and Tom Huppe added 18 as the Thunder improved to 1-5.
