Pancake breakfast to benefit Christmas bureau

June 5, 2012

The Johnson County Christmas Bureau’s Christmas in July Pancake Breakfast will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at Merriam Christian Church, 9401 Johnson Drive.

All-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage will be provided by Chris Cakes. Prices are $8 for adults and $6 for children 10 and younger.

The event also will feature tours of the newly remodeled Christmas Bureau office, which is housed in the oldest home in Merriam, next door to Merriam Christian Church. Members of two organizations, the Shawnee Tomorrow leadership class and Rebuilding Together Shawnee, donated time, talents and materials for the remodeling project.

The Johnson County Christmas Bureau is a nondenominational agency that provides assistance to qualifying low-income residents of the county at an annual Holiday Shop. This year’s shop will be open Nov. 30 through Dec. 8 to clients referred by other social service agencies. A location is yet to be determined.

At the Holiday Shop, each client will select an assortment of groceries, personal-care items, gifts for family members, books, coats and other garments.

In 2012, the bureau served 12,700 individuals representing 3,425 families and 651 nursing homes.
