Two SMSD schools partnering to present ‘Race to Nowhere’
Shawnee Mission North High School and Hocker Grove Middle School are partnering to present “Race to Nowhere,” a documentary that highlights the academic pressures placed on students.
Created by filmmaker Vicki Abeles, “Race to Nowhere” has been screened in more than 30 countries and more than 5,000 communities, including several Johnson County school districts. School officials said the intent of the SM North screening is to explore current assumptions on how best to prepare America’s youth for the future.
“Race to Nowhere” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 28 in the SM North auditorium, 7401 Johnson Drive, Overland Park. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Community members and school staff will be available after the film for a panel discussion.
