No serious injuries reported after De Soto school bus collision
No serious injuries have been reported after a Monday morning collision between a Belmont Elementary school bus carrying fifth-grade students and staff and another car.
District spokesman Alvie Cater said the school bus was heading east on Interstate 70 for a field trip at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., when it was hit from behind shortly after 10 a.m. by another vehicle. According to police, the wet highway caused the driver to lose control, and the collision with the bus caused the car to then flip over.
Following the accident, “police say the driver was walking around with no visible injuries,” Cater said.
He said one student suffered only “a very minor bump.” After paramedics checked students and staff over, they were transferred to another bus and continued on to their field trip, he said, which included tours of Kauffman and the Kansas City Royals Hall of Fame through the Royals Scholastic Victory Program.
Cater said parents also were contacted by the district following the incident.
