New KSHSAA classifications find MVHS growing, St. James moving up in class
The Kansas High School Activities Association released its 2012-13 non-football classifications and enrollment figures in which Lenexa’s St. James Academy moved up to Class 5A, where Mill Valley posted a 7 percent gain in enrollment.
St. James moves up from 4A after increasing its enrollment to 734 from 689 in 2011-12. Meanwhile, Mill Valley added 82 students to arrive at an enrollment of 1,222 students this year.
Shawnee Mission Northwest posted a slight dip in enrollment, with 1,787 down from 1,800 last year, but remains firmly entrenched at 6A with SM North, which dropped to 1,506 from 1,546 in 2011.
Meanwhile, two Sunflower League schools — SM South and Leavenworth — dropped to 5A this year.
Shawnee’s Maranatha Christian Academy remained at Class 2A, maintaining a relatively steady enrollment of 138 students, down eight students from 2011.
These classifications will be effective immediately with regional and state fall sports competition.
