Students invited to apply for Becky NIcks Scholarship

The Old Shawnee Days Committee is offering a $1,000 Becky Nicks Scholarship to be awarded to a Shawnee high school junior or senior.

Applicants must fill out a form listing their academic and community achievements. In addition, they must write a 500-word essay on the topic “Why do you believe there’s no place like Shawnee?”

Applications are available at area high schools, Shawnee City Hall, the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce office, Shawnee Civic Centre, Shawnee Town 1929 or online at Completed applications must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, May 10.

The Old Shawnee Days festival will be held June 6-9, and the scholarship winner will be invited to ride in the parade on June 8. The scholarship honors longtime Old Shawnee Days volunteer Becky Nicks, who passed away in 2010.
