St. James freshman Tujague wins Bobcat Classic title, Thunder third overall
Basehor There are good first impressions and then there are seasons like that of St. James Academy freshman Stephen Tujague of Shawnee.
Tujague improved to 24-5 on Saturday after capturing the 106-pound championship at the 13th annual Bobcat Classic at Basehor-Linwood. Tujague defeated Bonner Springs junior Josiah Seaton, 5-2, to win the tournament, which featured wrestlers from 36 schools.
Tujague was one of nine Thunder wrestlers to place in the tournament and five Shawnee residents to do so.
Sophomore Zak Hensley dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to Oak Park junior Noah Teaney in the 126-pound final to place second, bringing his record to 12-5.
Freshman Tyler Hensley (19-11) placed fourth in the 113-pound bracket after he was pinned by Pittsburg senior Jeremiah Jones in the tournament’s third-place match. At 138 pounds, junior Andrew Tujague (23-10) placed sixth after dropping a 3-0 decision to Fort Scott senior Victor Hughes. Senior Andy Muehlberger (21-9) rounded out the day in winning his seventh-place match, 5-0, against Shawnee Mission East senior Jon Reuter.
Topeka Seaman (177.5 points) and Blue Springs (172) placed ahead of St. James at the two-day tournament. The Thunder will next travel to Platte County (Mo.) for a two-day tournament on Friday and Saturday.
