SMN boys swim and dive team second ahead of league meet
A host of strong performances led the Shawnee Mission North boys swim and dive team to a second-place finish behind Olathe East at Mission Trail on Friday.
Lair Heslop earned a new state consideration time in the 100-yard butterfly with a 1:00.6, followed by Erik Hydeman’s latest state consideration time in the 100-yard freestyle (53:23).
In the 500-yard freestyle, Cody Sarras missed a state consideration by just a few seconds while Josh Herron bested his personal record by 17 seconds.
Jacob Roemer, Keighan Miller, Michael Armstrong and Ian Lloyd placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay, also notching a state consideration time. Hydeman later dropped another second off his personal record in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming a 1:01.22.
Roemer placed second with a personal record of 1:07.73 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Also setting a new personal record, Jake Croston finished with a 1:14.17 in the same event, followed by Ian Lloyd at 1:15.01.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Heslop, Miller, Sarras and Hydeman overtook Olathe East in the final 50 yards to win the event and cap the Indians’ day.
The Indians, and Shawnee Mission Northwest, travel to Lawrence Friday for the Sunflower League Championships.
