Shawnee convenience store hit by armed robbery again
Shawnee Police are investigating after a local convenience store was robbed this morning, according to Mike Frizzell of Operation 100 News, news partner to the Lawrence Journal-World.
Police say they were called to the TempStop convenience store at 13515 W. 63rd Street shortly before 1:30 Thursday morning. The store is located on the northwest corner of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Pflumm Road.
This same store was also robbed on Feb. 12, 2013.
Shawnee Police Department Major Bill Hisle told Operation 100 News that a black male suspect entered the store, approached the clerk from behind and demanded money.
The clerk told police that the man was armed with a handgun, possibly a revolver. The suspect is described as a black male who was wearing a dark colored hoodie, sunglasses, and a bandanna covering his face, according to Operation 100 News.
Major Hisle says that before leaving, the suspect used zip ties to handcuff the clerk behind his back. A customer entered the store a short time later and cut the zip ties off of the clerk.
The suspect left on foot and no vehicles were seen, according to police.
Officers established a perimeter and searched the area with a K-9 unit from the Overland Park Police Department. Major Hisle says that the K-9 track led officers to the Sheridan's Frozen Custard parking lot where it ended, indicating the suspect probably got into a vehicle.
Police are unsure if this robbery is related to the previous one or not.
