MVHS soccer routs Pioneers
The Mill Valley girls soccer team, which finished the regular season 12-2-1, opened regional play with an emphatic 10-0 win against Leavenworth Monday.
The Jaguars led 4-0 at halftime before tacking on six more in the second half to end it early. Mill Valley will next host the Northeast Regional 2 final on Thursday against the winner of Tuesday’s Bishop Miege vs. Topeka-Seaman game.
3 Cougar golfers state-bound
Shawnee Mission Northwest’s boys golf team finished 12 shots away from qualifying for state at its Class 6A regional tournament at Tomahawk Golf Course on Monday, but that doesn’t mean multiple Cougars aren’t state-bound.
Three SM Northwest golfers qualified for state by placing in the top five among players not on the three teams that qualified: SM East (309), Blue Valley North (313) and Blue Valley West (319).
Mitchell Bolton (81), Blake Allen (83) and Garret Allen (83) will represent SM Northwest at the 6A state golf tournament on May 20 at Meadowbrook Country Club, 9401 Nall, Prairie Village.
MVHS golf second, qualifies team for state
Mill Valley’s boys golf team placed second and qualified for state for the second straight year on Monday at its Class 5A regional tournament at Cypress Ridge in Topeka.
Five Jaguars finished in the top 10 on the par-70 course, led by sophomores Jalen Oehlert and Jack Casburn, who each shot a 77.
The pair also tied with Topeka-Seaman’s Jalen Heald, who edged Oehlert for third-place on the course’s eighth tiebreaker hole.
Sophomore Ben Hadden finished seventh with a 79, followed by junior Nathan Brinker’s 83. Senior Quinn Jones rounded out the top 10 with an 84.
The Jaguars finished with a season-low score of 316, just four shots behind first-place Topeka-Seaman.
Mill Valley will next play Monday at Brookridge Country Club, 8223 West 103rd Street, Overland Park.
