Shawnee convenience store robbed for second time in five days
A Shawnee convenience store has been robbed for the second time in five days.
Temp Stop, 13515 W. 63rd St., was robbed about 1:50 a.m. Tuesday.
According to Shawnee Police, an officer was driving through the lot but could not see the clerk when he looked in the window. As the officer parked his vehicle, the clerk ran out of the convenience store.
"We basically missed this by a matter of seconds," Maj. Bill Hisle said.
The clerk told police that a man displayed a revolver and demanded cash from the register. Before leaving, the man told the clerk to lie down and used a zip tie to handcuff the clerk behind his back. The clerk ran outside to notify the officer while still handcuffed by the zip ties.
The suspect left on foot and no vehicle was seen. A police canine conducted a short track, which led behind the business, which police believe indicated the suspect likely got into a vehicle.
No one was injured in the armed robbery, police said.
The clerk described the suspect as a black man, 5-8 to 5-10 in height with a slender build wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black gloves, sunglasses and a black bandana covering his face.
The convenience store, at the northwest corner of Pflumm and Shawnee Mission Parkway, also was the target of an armed robbery Thursday about the same time in the early morning. The clerk described the suspect as being a black male and wearing similar attire. It's the third time the store has been the target of an armed robbery. Temp Stop was robbed in February. The store has been open for roughly six months.
