Mill Valley volleyball splits season-opening meet; St. James to meet nationally ranked Iowa team
Mill Valley's volleyball team opened the season with a 1-1 showing on Tuesday.
The Jaguars first lost to St. Thomas Aquinas (10-25, 23-25) before defeating Leavenworth (25-20, 25-20) at Leavenworth High.
Against the Saints, Gabby Fangman led Mill Valley with a .400 hitting percentage and Abby Ford finished with 15 digs.
Meanwhile, in the Jaguars' victory, Micaela Crispin led the team with a .556 hitting percentage while Hannah Billings recorded 19 assists and Molly Oshinski passed a 2.86.
The Jaguars return to play at 5:30 p.m., Thursday with a triangular at Shawnee Mission West against the Vikings and Blue Valley West.
Showdown in Iowa awaits St. James volleyball
Also on Tuesday, St. James Academy's volleyball team defeated Blue Springs High (25-12, 25-17). Brie Lewis finished with nine kills and 11 digs while Arianna Person had nine kills and five digs. Jenna Gray had 26 assists with five digs and one ace. Meanwhile, Audriana Fitzmorris finished with five kills, two solo blocks and three block assists.
The Thunder is off until next Tuesday when it travels to Iowa to compete against Dike New Hartford in a contest between the nation's third- and fourth-ranked teams, respectively, according to Prep Volleyball.
