Shawnee, De Soto, JCCC groups win NEA grants
The National Endowment for the Arts recently awarded grants to groups in Shawnee and De Soto, as well as Johnson County Community College.
• Rock Cottage Glassworks, 6801 Farley St. in Shawnee, received $5,000 to replace furnaces and tools used for its American-made glass.
• The De Soto Arts Council received $4,842 to support the development of an arts center in the De Soto City Hall’s lower level.
• Johnson County Community College received $5,000 for its Performing Arts Series Arts Education Program, which will use the money to develop K-12 teacher training and English-learning curriculum in the arts.
In total, the NEA awarded $560,800 in grants to Kansas groups. The largest payout, $17,500, will be used for the Department of Education’s Poetry Out Loud program.
