Kansas: Tea Party group seeks to renew push for anti-gay marriage bill

February 23, 2014

— A Wichita-based tea party group is trying to resurrect a bill that would allow service refusal to same-sex couples on religious grounds, saying the bill is as much about gay rights as it is to protect the rights of Christians.

Kansans for Liberty leader Craig Gabel says in an email to “conservative activists” that the Legislature was cowed by a tiny minority of Kansans. The Wichita Eagle reports Gabel is asking his members to email state senators who are refusing a vote on a House bill called the Kansas Religious Freedom Act.

The measure was put on hold after a national outcry by critics who said it would give state sanction to discriminate against gay people.
