Becky Nicks’ Junior Pioneer Scholarship Contest now accepting applications

The Old Shawnee Days Society is now accepting applications for the 2015 Becky Nicks’ Junior Pioneer Scholarship. The scholarship is named after Becky Nicks who was a longtime supporter of Old Shawnee Days and former chairperson of the event.

The $1,000 college scholarship will be awarded to a Shawnee high school junior or senior. Applicants may apply online at by 5 p.m. Monday, Apr. 20. Applications must include students’ academic and community achievements and a 500-word essay on the topic “How Will You Give Back to Shawnee in the Future?”

The winner will be invited to read their essay at the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce breakfast on Thursday, June 4, and to ride in the Old Shawnee Days parade on Saturday, June 6.
