Goodburn, Powers to hold onto seats on Shawnee Mission, De Soto school boards
In the only two races involving incumbents on De Soto and Shawnee Mission school boards, current board members will hold on to their seats for another four years.
According to the unofficial results posted to the Johnson County Election Office website Tuesday after polls closed, Sara Goodburn will hold onto her Position 1 seat on the Shawnee Mission board, with 53 percent of the vote, or a total of 2,026 votes. Running against Goodburn was Mark Ellis, who received about 38 percent of votes cast, or a total of 1,436 votes.
Coming in first place on the Position 2 seat of the De Soto school board is current board member Mitch Powers, who received 1,228 votes, or 54 percent. His opponent, Jeff King, received 1,021 votes, or 45 percent of total votes cast.
Earning the at-large Position 7 seat on the De Soto board is Kevin Makalous, who beat out opponent Dustin Keith with 1,310 votes over Keith’s 1,082. The at-large Position 7 seat on the Shawnee Mission school board will be held by Brad Stratton, who received 9,476 votes over opponent Elizabeth Rulo’s 4,757.
In uncontested races, Bill Fletcher (Position 1 on the De Soto board) received a total of 1,919 votes, while Angela Handy (Position 3 on the De Soto board) received 2,001. Patty Mach received a total of 3,243 votes for her uncontested race for Position 5 on the Shawnee Mission school board.
Results won’t become official until the final canvass is conducted.
