SM North swimming team beats Olathe North
The Shawnee Mission North girls swimming team defeated Olathe North 84-79 in a dual meet on Tuesday evening, thanks in large part to seven first-place finishes.
The Lady Indians’ 200-yard medley relay team — composed of Joely Merriman, Aleah Sadeghi, Caitlyn Howard and Amanda Enyart — swam a state qualifying time. The 400-yard freestyle relay team — composed of Howard, Enyart, Merriman and Tessa Poterbin — earned a state consideration time during their first-place finish.
Other first-place finishers for SM North included Erin Robertson in the 200-yard individual medley, Merriman in the 50- and 500-yard freestyle events, Howard in the 100-yard freestyle and Sadeghi in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Second-place finishers included the SM North’s other 400-yard freestyle relay team, which was composed of Robertson, Eliza Roubinek, Hannah Patterson and Jillian Jacobson. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Enyart, Poterbin, Robertson and Howard also took second.
Other second-place finishers were Poterbin the 200-yard freestyle, Robertson in the 100-yard freestyle and Patterson in the 100-yard backstroke.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sadeghi, Robertson, Yenesis Madrid and Emily Kyle took third place. Other third-place finishers included Enyart in the 200-yard freestyle, Madrid in the 100-yard freestyle and Paige Holdren in the 100-yard backstroke.
Jacobson finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, and Poterbin and Roubinek took fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, respectively.
