Suspected auto burglar arrested following morning search
Shawnee Police arrested a man suspected of attempting to burglarize vehicles this morning.
Officers were called to an address in the 5800 block of Melrose Lane just before 6:30 a.m. Thursday after a resident spotted a man trying to open car doors.
As officers began to arrive, the suspect spotted police and ran through several backyards in the 5800 block of Stearns Street. Officers were not far behind and were able to quickly setup a perimeter to keep the man from escaping, according to scanner reports.
K-9 units from Overland Park and Shawnee responded to the area and assisted in locating the man who was found hiding in a shed in the 6000 block of Stearns Street. Merriam Police also assisted in the area.
The unidentified man has been transported to the Johnson County Jail on suspicion of auto burglary and is awaiting formal charging.
