Shawnee police issue two DUIs, 36 safety belt citations over Thanksgiving holiday
Over the Thanksgiving holiday week, the Shawnee Police Department and other law enforcement agencies participated in a Thanksgiving Traffic Enforcement campaign and made 80 enforcement stops within the city.
Two arrests were made for DWI and 36 safety belt citations were issued along iwth 87 other citations, warnings and arrests.
The campaign, which was funded by the Kansas Department of Transportation, focused on targeting people operating cars while under the influence of alcohol as well as drivers and passengers who were not wearing their seat belt.
“The idea behind enforcement campaigns like this is to save lives and prevent injury in a way that encourages safer driving decisions in the future,” said Major Dan Tennis in a press release. “Safety begins by adopting two very simple and inflexible rules. Always buckle your seat belt when you are driving or riding in a car and never drive while under the influence of alcohol or ride with someone who has been drinking.”
