The Shawnee Mission Northwest boys basketball team captured a 46-43 victory over Washburn Rural at home on Friday evening.
Ferdinand Handy led the way for the Cougars with 15 points. Noah Kendall finished with 10 points, and Dylan Dirks added seven. SM Northwest will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at SM South.
St. James 57, SM East 55
St. James pulled out a close victory over Shawnee Mission East at the SM North Championship Showdown on Friday.
Zach Thornhill led the way for the Thunder with 24 points, and Will McKee finished with 16. St. James will be back in action at 1:30 p.m. today in the fifth-place game against Rockhurst at SM North.
Vianney 77, SM North 74
SM North lost to Vianney in a closely-contested game in the second semifinal of the Championship Showdown on Friday night. The Indians will be back in action at 3 p.m. today as they face off against Barstow in the third-place game.
Free State 68, Mill Valley 63
The Jaguars lost a tough road game against Lawrence Free State on Friday night, falling to the homestanding Firebirds, 68-63.
Kasey Conklin led Mill Valley with 23 points, and Logan Koch finished with 14. The Jaguars will be back in action at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday as they head to Turner.
De Soto 59, Excelsior Springs 47
The Wildcats came out on top against Excelsior Springs at home on Friday evening in the Huhtamaki Hardwood Classic. Jacob Jennings and Nick Irons led the way for De Soto with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Jackson Reynolds finished with 10 points.
The Wildcats will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. today as they take on Bishop Ward.
Northland 46, MCA 40
Maranatha Christian Academy lost to Northland Christian at home on Friday night. The Eagles were led by Xavier Henderson, who finished with 15 points. Ben Kynion, Nate Raydo and Aaron Bowlin also made key contributions.
MCA will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Monday as it travels to University Academy.
SM Northwest 49, Washburn Rural 48
The Lady Cougars pulled out a close home victory over Washburn Rural on Friday evening. SM Northwest was led by Brenni Rose, who scored 19 points. Shelbie McLain finished with nine points, and Emmalee Rose added eight.
The Lady Cougars will be back in action at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday as they travel to SM South.
Free State 55, Mill Valley 46
The Lady Jaguars lost to Lawrence Free State on the road on Friday evening. Mill Valley was led by Catie Kaifes, who scored 19 points. Ashlyn Hendrix and Adde Hinkle each scored eight points.
The Lady Jaguars will be back in action at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday as they travel to Turner.
Bonner Springs 52, St. James 37
The Lady Thunder lost to Bonner Springs on Friday evening in the Paola Tournament. St. James was led by Kayla Staley, who scored 10 points. Allie Webb finished with eight points, and Colleen Pikus added six.
The Lady Thunder will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Thursday as they host Notre Dame De Sion.
Olathe Northwest 52, De Soto 46
The Lady Wildcats lost to Olathe Northwest on Friday night in the Huhtamaki Hardwood Classic. De Soto was led by Julia Johnson, who scored 13 points. Mariah Grizzle and Kristen Saucerman added 11 and nine points, respectively.
The Lady Wildcats will be back in action at 5 p.m. today as they play host to KC East.
