SM Northwest teams capture league victories
The Shawnee Mission Northwest basketball teams picked up a pair of victories on Tuesday evening on the road against Sunflower League rival Shawnee Mission South.
The SM Northwest boys captured a 66-61 triumph, led by a team-high 20 points from senior guard Dylan Dirks. Ferdinand Handy finished with 15, and Jamey Fisher and Austin Sanders each finished with 12.
The Lady Cougars, meanwhile, came away with a 58-49 victory. SM Northwest was led by senior forward Brenni Rose, who scored a game-high 23 points. Jordan Nachbar finished with 17 points, and Danielle Rehor added 11.
The Cougars will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, as they play host to Olathe South. The Lady Cougars will play at 7 p.m. on Friday as they play host to Eudora.
De Soto girls lose to SM West
The Lady Wildcats lost to Shawnee Mission West 49-45 on Tuesday night on the road. Julia Johnson led the way with 13 points, Kristin Saucerman finished with 12, and Mariah Grizzle added 10.
De Soto will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Friday as the team travels to Ottawa.
MCA falls to University Academy
The Maranatha Christian Academy boys fell to University Academy 77-47 on Monday. Cooper Hartwick scored a team-high 22 points for the Eagles.
“[We] had a 14-7 run to begin the game and looked great,” coach Travis Thompson said. “They shot the lights out and played great defense. It was a tough team, but our guys battled hard.”
The Eagles will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, as they play host to Kansas City Christian.
