Hoops Roundup: Mill Valley teams beat Turner
The Mill Valley High School basketball teams picked up a pair of road victories on Thursday evening, as both the boys and girls handily defeated Kaw Valley League rival Turner.
The boys earned a 70-44 win, spurred by a dominating first quarter in which they outscored Turner 18-6. Cooper Kaifes led the way with 12 points, all via 3-pointers. Jaison Widmer finished with 11 points, and Derrell McLemore, Tyler Grauer and Clayton Holmberg each added 10.
The Lady Jaguars, meanwhile, captured a 57-19 victory. Both the girls and boys teams will be back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 5, as they play host to Basehor-Linwood.
St. James girls win
The Lady Thunder pulled out a 48-43 home victory over Notre Dame de Sion on Thursday night. Emily Kauffman led the way for St. James with 17 points. Kayla Staley finished with eight points, and Mary Goetz and Ali Burke each added seven.
The Lady Thunder will be back in action at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at home against Hayden.
SM North girls lose
The Shawnee Mission North girls lost to University Academy at home on Thursday night, 48-44. The Lady Indians will be back in action at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, as they play host to Olathe North.
