De Soto girls pull out victory over Ottawa
The De Soto High School girls basketball team captured a 44-37 road victory over Frontier League rival Ottawa on Friday evening, thanks in large part to an impressive scoring performance from one of its best players.
Sophomore forward Mariah Grizzle poured in 23 points, accounting for more than 52 percent of the Lady Wildcats’ scoring. Julia Johnson finished with nine points, and Kristen Saucerman added six.
The Lady Wildcats will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Paola.
De Soto boys lose
The Wildcats fell to Ottawa in a closely-contested game, losing 46-44. Nick Irons and Cooper Hancock led the way for De Soto, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Isaac Albert finished with nine points, and Jackson Reynolds added six. Perry Carroll scored a game-high 18 points for Ottawa.
The Wildcats will be back in action at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Paola.
