Stolen property recovered following Monday auto burglaries
Four suspects were arrested after allegedly stealing a loaded handgun and other merchandise from vehicles in Shawnee and Lenexa.
Shawnee police officers were dispatched to an address in the 6900 block of Albervan Street at 2:03 a.m. A caller told dispatchers that four people, possibly teenagers, were seen inside a neighbor’s truck and had stolen a loaded gun from inside.
Radio traffic indicated that the suspects were in a red Jeep, which was last seen driving southbound towards 71st Street.
At 2:08 a.m., a responding officer spotted a red Jeep on eastbound 75th Street. The Jeep turned south on Monrovia Street, into Lenexa.
Officers from Shawnee and Lenexa conducted a vehicle stop on Quivira Road just to the south of 87th Street at 2:13 a.m.
In a news release Shawnee Sgt. Joe Mazzei says, “stolen merchandise was found in the vehicle and all four suspects were arrested.”
Radio traffic from Lenexa officers reported that four people had been detained and the gun had been recovered. Other items recovered include glasses, a duffle bag, clothing, cash, cell phone and tools.
Shawnee police said they believe the suspects were involved in three total Shawnee burglaries and three others in Lenexa Monday.
